New Siem Reap Town Hotel Siem Reap Review

Sunday, September 29, 2013

New Siem Reap Town Hotel Address: 149, National Road No. 6, Bunteay Chas Village, Slorkram Commune, Siem Reap, Cambodia Phone: (855+63) 963 591. Date of Stay: December 22-24, 2011 Booking Site: Agoda.com Cost of Room: 20 USD per night including breakfast. What I liked: Cheap Price. What I did not like: Poor location, dirty shower curtain, very few vegetarian breakfast options, bad tasting coffee. The room was large and well furnished except for the wardrobe that was small and not very clean from inside. Knowing that it was a 20 USD per night hotel, I was still happy with the room. Reception staff spoke good English and were always willing to help. They offered to arrange for a Tuk Tuk for my trip to Angkor Park but the asking price was 30 USD. I was able to find a Tuk Tuk myself for 12 USD. Speaking of Tuk Tuk, the location of the hotel is right on a very busy highway sort of road. There is a local foodstuff market next to the hotel. The area is not meant for tourists. It is far away from Pub Street and it takes 2 USD for each one way Tuk Tuk trip to/from Pub Street. Breakfast was included in the price but vegetarian choice was just very oily fried rice and bad tasting coffee. The restaurant is in front of the reception and is very large and open. Free wi-fi in the room did not work. I did not try to connect in the lobby. (Read more below)

New Siem Reap Town Hotel, Siem Reap, Cambodia

New Siem Reap Town Hotel, Siem Reap Twin Room

December is supposed to be high tourist season in Cambodia but the hotel was almost empty. When I asked about a foot massage, they offered to call a massage lady from outside for a massage in my room. The in-house spa was shut down for good.

Now my two main complaints

New Siem Reap Town Hotel , Siem Reap, Water Heater

The water heater in the bathroom was inconvenient to use. The rotary switch was very hard to turn. Overall the heater looked dated and unsafe.

New Siem Reap Town Hotel, Siem Reap, Dirty Shower Curtain

The shower curtain was a huge disappointment. One would not believe that shower curtain could be so dirty in an otherwise OK room. I have never seen such a shower curtain in a hotel earlier.
My verdict: Despite being cheap, New Siem Reap Town Hotel is avoidable.

The room also has a small balcony. The hotel could be really nice if the management tried harder.

Roof of the local market next to the hotel is visible from the balcony.
