Having reached Angkor Wat at around 2.00 pm, I wanted to eat something before going into the temple. There were numerous restaurants / cafes on the ground opposite the main entrance of the temple. I took a round of the ground to looking for a place that served some vegetarian food. I found two such places - Angkor Cafe and another restaurant to the right of Angkor Cafe. But that restaurant was more expensive and had less vegetarian choice. So I decided to eat at Angkor Cafe. The Place was very busy that being lunch hour, yet I was lucky to spot an empty table. Only the table had a "Reserved" sign on it. A waiter came by and repeated what the "sign" already said. I told him that I knew they would prefer giving that table to a group of people and not to a solo guest but I was hungry and needed some vegetarian food. That guy said "NO". Obviously in Angkor Cafe, like everywhere else in Cambodia, US Dollars mean more than people. I was about to leave, when another solo guest on a nearby table offered to share his table with me. That solo guest turned out to be Taiki from Japan who instantly became my friend and we spent the rest of the day together. After the slow start, lunch at Angkor Cafe turned out to be great mainly due to the company of Taiki and in part due to the nice food. Read more below for Menu and pictures...

Angkor Cafe's menu was of "the blue pumpkin". There is a cafe by that name in the Pub Street area in Siem Reap. Vegetarian items in the menu were marked "V", mainly salads (3.75 - 4.00 USD) and a vegetarian quiche (2.50 USD). I ordered the vegetarian quiche and tofu salad (3.75) both of which turned out to be tasty and heavy. Taiki was kind enough to help me almost finish the salad. We ended the meal with a Cafe Americano each. I have already decided to order the same three items on my next visit and finish them completely. Yes, provided Angkor Cafe gives me a table.

For the "sunrise" visitors to Angkor Wat, the breakfast menu of Angkor Cafe looks inviting. I bet the place will be crowded in the morning.
