Food Court - Pure Vegetarian Restaurant on M. G. Marg Gangtok

Sunday, November 3, 2013

"Food Court" is an affordable vegetarian food joint on M. G. Marg, Gangtok. Its located on the right side of the road while going from the Tourist Office end to the other side. The entry to this restaurant is on a stairway which goes down towards some market place. Unlike the name suggests, Food Court is a proper sit-down restaurant. The menu has a range of snacks (South / North Indian), Chaat items, Veg Thali, vegetarian curries, and the regular Indo-Chinese including the local momos. South Indian food - Dosa, Uttapam, Wada, Idli - costs between Rs. 45 (Idli) and 85 (Special Masala Dosa). Veg Thali comes with a mixed vegetable, mutter paneer, dal fry, 4 butter chapties, papad, salad and pickle, costs Rs. 150. Vegetarian curry prices range from Rs. 50 (dal plain) to Rs. 130 (Shahi/Kadai Paneer). Chaat items start at Rs. 35 for Paani Poori and go up to Rs. 65 for Mixed Chaat. Plain Steamed Momos cost Rs. 35. I had Masala Dosa (Rs. 60) which was much better than the horrible dosa I had in "Rasoi", a government sort of restaurant on M. G. Marg. The restaurant's decor with its simple glass-top tables is better than what its modest exterior suggests. Overall, its a good alternative to Aggarwal's on the opposite side where one needs to stand while eating. (See menu and other pictures below...)
