Roll House - Rolls and Momos M. G. Marg Gangtok

Saturday, November 2, 2013

This one is a real hole in the wall eating joint. But going by the crowd of customers that is always seen there, its must be very popular. If one is looking to have some vegetarian rolls (Kathi Rolls, that is) or momos, Roll House on M. G. Marg is the place to go. There is a blue signboard on the left side of the road while going from the Tourist Office end to the other side. One needs to go inside an alley sort of way and this hole is on the right. Its a wonder how so many staff and customers fit into this hole. But service is really fast and the rolls are very tasty. I have yet to try the momos. But why have doubts. I am sure the momos will be at least good. Prices are as low as they could be. Rolls start at Rs. 15 (Cabbage-Onion) and go upto Rs. 50 (Cheese Special or Roll House Special). There is a huge list in-between. Rolls are broadly categorised in to Vegetable, Mashed Potato, Paneer, Cheese, Soya, Capsicum, and Green Chilli, etc. with a majority priced between Rs. 20 and Rs. 40. In all there are over 40 variants of rolls. Momos start at Rs. 30 for Vegetable, and go up to Rs. 60 for Paneer Chily. Soya, Chilli-Garlic, Corn variants of momos are available too, some requiring advance order. (See Menu and other pictures below...). I would say, if one eatery on M. G. Marg can be labeled Cheap and Best, Roll House would be it. Their signboard says it too: "Best Rolls and Momos in Town". So next time you are at M. G. Road, go have a roll at Roll House. And I will have Paneer Chilly momos. Can't wait.
