Hotel Guia Macau Review

Saturday, January 4, 2014

Hotel Guia (Estrada Do Engenheiro Trigo No. 1-5, Macau, Phone: 853- 285-13888) is one of my favourite hotels in Macau. Its a beautiful property in an equally beautiful location. The name "Guia" is due to the proximity of the hotel to the Guia Fortress and Light House, one of Macau's historical landmarks. The Fortress and the Light House are just a 2 minute climb on the road in front of the hotel. The other locational advantage of Hotel Guia is its free shuttle service to Casino Lisboa that runs throughout the day at 1 hour intervals. Even without the shuttle, four major casinos - Lisboa, Star World, Wynn, and MGM, are within a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. Its a pleasant walk through a residential area with 7-Eleven and other super markets on the way. The free shuttle extends to HK-Macau Ferry terminal and Border Gate starting at 8.00 in the morning. The last free shuttle leaves the hotel at 5.00 PM. In addition to the free shuttle service, pickup and drop is provided by the front office on request at a fee of 50 HKD per one-way trip. I stayed in a Standard Room that cost me about 100 USD per night (Friday night) on a non-refundable basis, with 100% advance payment. Otherwise, this room would cost 25% more. Weekday tariffs are lower than Friday and Saturday night rates.  This rate includes free wifi internet but no breakfast. Paid cooked breakfast starts at 40 HKD/MOP. The rooms were very clean, and very beautifully decorated. Two bottles of drinking water and a tea / coffee maker with some supplies were provided. The bathroom is very clean too. Free toiletries like body lotion and shampoo are of decent quality. Other amenities in the room included a writing desk, a minibar, and an LCD TV. An interesting facility available in-room was adult channels offered by the hotel on payment of around 100 HKD per channel for 24 hours. The leaflet announcing the facility was kept prominently on the writing desk. It would be a problem for guests accompanied by children to walk in to the room where this kind of material is displayed so prominently. Apart from this, Hotel Guia is perfect.

I left my day job in October 2013 and became a full time blogger. I love travel and hence a travel blog was the obvious place to start from. The result is I currently live in Bengaluru, India. - Narinder Singh. (Email:
