Ttakshang Spa Residency Hotel (Kazi Road, Gangtok - 737101) is a part of the Summit Group of hotels that have properties in Darjeeling, Pelling, Kalimpong, and Siliguri apart from Gangtok. In Gangtok, they have another hotel named Norling Resort & Spa. Now, that calls for a story to be told even before I write about Ttakshang. Norling Resort is way out of Gangtok City and generally does not attract many guests. To overcome this problem, the management of Summit Group of hotels over-book Ttakshang Residency and divert guests upon arrival to Norling Resort by telling fake stories of water shortage or a breakdown of some other facility in Ttakshang. I had read this in an online review before but did not expect this to happen to me too. What did I know? Upon arrival, a lady at the reception told me that there was water shortage in the hotel so they were diverting guests to Norling Resort. A free cab would take me there and bring me back to Ttakshang in the morning after breakfast. I told her that my plan was to visit a casino that evening. So the arrangement would be acceptable to me if she agreed to get me dropped off at the casino after I put my bags at Norling. She agreed. The room at Norling was large and comfortable. The breakfast next morning was OK but distance from Gangtok City was a real problem. I got a free drop to the Casino Sikkim, but the casino refused me a free drop at night to Norling saying it was out of town. I had to pay an extra Rs. 300 to the driver to return to Norling that night. A one-night halt at Norling may be OK, but it is certainly not suitable for a longer stay. Now about Ttakshang, read & see pictures below...

My deluxe room at Ttakshang was smaller but furnished all right. There was a bottle of water, and a tea / coffee maker with some supplies. The bathroom was small and barely adequate. Overall, the room was clean. A two-night stay with breakfast and a one-hour complimentary massage cost me Rs. 3260/- after a discount offer from the booking site. The free massage offer was the main reason for me to book this hotel and it proved to be the right decision. The massage was really good. Paid massage treatments cost between Rs. 1200 and Rs. 2500. Its not really a "Spa" but a basic massage service in individual cabins that have electrical heaters. Its called Summit Spa (Read more) that operates in both Ttakshang and Norling. I hope the facility contines because I plan to stay in Ttakshang again on my next visit to Gangtok. Ttakshang Residency's location is very good. Its a five minute walk to M. G. Marg via Kazi Road. There is also a back-side short-cut through a not-so-clean path leading to Tibet Road from where M. G. Marg (Tourist Office end) can be accessed. This property is good if they stop playing the "divert to Norling" game. I cannot comment on breakfast because I missed it due to waking up late. Will try next time.
