Hotel Near Ginza Light Rail Hong Kong - Harbour Plaza Resort City Review

Friday, January 17, 2014

Harbour Plaza Resort City is one of the finest hotels in New territories of Hong Kong. New territories means, it is far away from the main tourist areas like Tsim Sha Tsui. But I do not consider that a huge problem because, one - the accessibility via MTR and Light Rail is great and two - because one gets compensated for the extra travel by getting a really large room with a great view in a huge hotel located in a very beautiful area. There are quite a few attractions around the hotel which I will mention later in this page. A "Superior" room for two in Harbour Plaza Resort City costs around 85-90 USD without breakfast. For that price, I got a suite (It was a free upgrade) that had french windows overlooking a beautiful park, a king bed, a separate lounge area, a small dining table with two chairs, a tea/coffee maker with supplies, two water bottles, a kitchenette complete with a microwave, a large refrigerator, a TV, a writing desk, and a bathroom with a bath tub in it. Those who travel frequently to Hong Kong will appreciate that it is totally impossible to find such a room in the main tourist areas at such a low price. Read more and see pictures below...

Let me address the accesibility issue or how to get to Harbour Plaza Resort City first. By MTR, one needs to get to Tin Shui Wai station and from there change to Light Rail for Ginza stop, which is three stops from Tin Shui Wai. The hotel is right opposite Light Rail's Ginza stop. This type of connectivity requires one to watch the timings of MTR and Light Rail systems because at night, when these services do not operate, taxi or hotel shuttle (info below) will be the only mode of travel to and from this hotel. Please see the MTR map below:

The hotel operates shuttle bus services, for a price, to downtown HK (Tsim Sha Tsui - 24 HKD), Disneyland (50 HKD) and Airport (100 HKD). Downtown service operates from 7 am to 10 pm and Airport / Disneyland service operates from 5 am to midnight. From the Airport, one can catch a shuttle to the hotel from 6 am to 1.10 am every hour. Complete transportation and sightseeing info about Harbour Plaza Resort City is available in this page:

A public bus to the airport is available at a 2 minute walk from the hotel that is cheaper than the shuttle and is equally convenient. Please ask the front office staff for directions to the public bus stop. Nearby attractions include Kingswood Ginza Shopping Center, Hong Kong Wetland Park, and Ping Shan Heritage Trail and a few others. Tin Shui Wai Central Park (200 million sq.ft.) is adjacent to the hotel. All these attractions ensure that your stay at this hotel is not at all pointless as some online reviews suggest. The distance of the hotel from Tsim Sha Tsui does not matter if one uses the hotel's shuttle. Its a 30-35 minute ride and one gets to see the city life on the way. My fitst stay at this hotel was of one night only because of which I could not take advantage of everything on offer. But my next stay will be definitely longer. I totally recommend this hotel.

I left my day job in October 2013 and became a full time blogger. I love travel and hence a travel blog was the obvious place to start from. The result is I currently live in Bengaluru, India. - Narinder Singh. (Email:
