While looking for Cinnamon Powder (hard to find in Colombo) in a 'Food City' outlet in the Sri Lankan capital, I came across small 10-20gm packets of herbs imported from Australia - Sage, Thyme, Oregano, Rosemary, Basil, and Paprika (both Hot and Sweet). Each of these packets cost between 56 and 80 Sri Lankan Rupees. Looked like value for money and a real blessing for someone looking to buy these food ingredients in Colombo. The supplier is a local firm called Navin Trading Company located at 63 B, Paramananda Vihara Mawatha, Colombo - 13. Their phone and fax numbers given on the packet were (+94-11)2451438 and (+94-11)2341478. The quality of herbs in a few packets that I bought turned out to be good. Read more and see picture below...

I thought of buying more quantity of Oregano because that is one of my favourite herbs. I called Navin Trading Company on their given number and was directed to their 'Main Street" outlet where the owner agreed to sell 500gm of Oregano at LKR 2200. It was not a steal but a better price than printed on the 10-20gm packets. Calling the shop in advance is a must before visiting to ensure ready availability of what one is looking to buy. In case you are interested, 'Main Street' is a shopping area in Pettah (near Colombo Fort Railway Station). A tuk tuk ride to the shop from Colombo Fort Station cost me 200 LKR supposedly because of the heavy traffic on this road. The shop (No. 7) is located on the first floor of the building number 159. There I met the owner of Navin Trading Company - Mr. I. X. Fernando, who told me that they have been in the business of selling imported foods and herbs in Sri Lanka for many years. Other brands available with them include John West, Tulip, BON Appetit, Campbell's, Campagna, and many more. Mr. Fernando can be reached on his Mobile Phone at 94-714236316 and email: firstname.lastname@example.org
