3G Prepaid Sim Card for Tourists in Thailand by True Move

Thursday, January 23, 2014

True Move is offering a real value pre-paid SIM card for international tourists in Thailand. This SIM card called "3G Tourist Inter SIM" comes with bundled internet, free domestic and international talk time, and really cheap international call rates. The prepaid SIM cards is sold in three variants - a FREE SIM, a 49 THB Starter SIM, and a 299 THB Value SIM. International call rates on these SIM cards start at 1 THB per minute, each international SMS costs 5 THB, and local Thailand calls cost 1 THB per minute.  International calls are cheaper with the Economy Service: 00600 + Country Code + Area Code + Phone Number to be called. Premium Service costs a little extra with 006 + Country Code + Area Code + Phone Number to be called. I used the Economy Service always and found it to be perfect. Read on for the features of the three variants... (Also see: DTAC Happy Tourist Sim)

The Free SIM, if you can find it, comes with 10 THB free talk time and 20 MB of data valid for 7 days. The 49 THB Starter SIM comes with 90 MB of data and 20 THB talk time, both valid for 30 days while the best option, the 299 THB Value SIM offers 100 THB of talk time and Unlimited data for 7 days. Its a real steal, only the data speed sometimes and in some locations is a bit slow. Despite that, the low international calling rates (3 THB per minute for India and 1 THB per minute for UK) make it an easy choice for international tourists. Recharge and availability

Balance recharge can be done at any 7-Eleven shop in Thailand. Availability-wise, things are no so rosy. It will be best to check at the True Move Sales Counter at the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport on arrival. In the pavement shops across Thailand, the 49 THB Starter SIM is sold for 100 THB. I did not find the 299 THB value SIM anywhere in Pattaya or Bangkok. A True Move company shop in Pattaya did not have any Tourist SIM card in stock whereas it was available at every pavement SIM shop outside. Some SIM card shops in Shopping Malls even try to charge 200-300 THB for the starter SIM that cost them only 49 THB. Please look at the picture above to be sure about which SIM variant is being sold to you. The art work on each of the variant-packs is unique. Don't get scammed.
