This excellent vegetarian Sri Lankan food option in Colombo is located in the most appropriate of places - in the same building where a Buddhist Cultural Centre is situated. Going by the published address, its 32,Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Mawatha, Colombo-5. To find it more easilty, this area is Havelock Town on Havelock Road near Sri Vihar Indian Restaurant. Public Bus number 138 (from Colombo Fort Railway Station) passes this building both ways of its journey. You may call them on 94-11-2580006 or 94-776655800 for directions, if needed. Paradise Sri Lankan Vegetarian Food Court is open from 7am to 10pm and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I guess their vegetarian set lunch (LKR 170) is the most popular and is available from 12pm to 6pm. Read more...

The platter is huge and you will need to tell them if you need to eat "not-so-much". Let me warn you though, that the food is really spicy. That's the way Sri Lankans love it. For tourists who find the set meal a little too hot for their taste, Paradise serve a great dessert (extra charge) of plain yoghurt and jaggery (see picture above). I had this dessert and just loved it. It was better than any fancy ice cream sundae I have had.

Apart from meals, they sell egg-less cakes and there is a huge menu of cakes to choose from. I guess for cakes, one would need to place an advance order. Vegetarian snacks, sweets and coffee are readily available. I totally recommend the set lunch and yoghurt-jaggery dessert. Coffee can be given a miss. For Indian vegetarian food, try Sri Vihar just across the road from Paradise.
