Park Plaza Sukhumvit Hotel Bangkok Review

Sunday, February 23, 2014

I have stayed many times at the Park Plaza Soi 18, so for my last trip it was time for a change. I decided to try the other Park Plaza in the same area. This one is called Park Plaza Sukhumvit Hotel and is situated very close to BTS Asoke Station and Terminal 21 Shopping Mall. Park Plaza Sukhumvit (2700 THB lowest tariff) is about 50% more expensive than Park Plaza Soi 18 (1955 THB lowest tariff), and hence, one will need to be clear about the reasons for staying in this hotel. The rooms and other facilities at both the properties are more or less similar. Even tripadvisor ratings are similar. Both the hotels are recommended by 94% of the reviewers. After staying at Park Plaza Sukhumvit for 2 nights, I could notice some differences that to some extent justify the higher price one needs to pay to stay there. Read more below...

The first thing one notices is the conduct of the staff at the front office. All of them greet the guests very enthusiastically as compared to the "formality" type greeting one gets at Park Plaza Soi 18. The welcome drink offered to the guests, something like Lemongrass Juice, is better. The staff at the coffee shop is more polite and the food they serve is of a better quality. Guests even get to enjoy free coffee, snacks, and fresh fruits in the coffee shop any time of the day.

I had booked a Superior Room (2700 THB) but they gave me an upgrade. Now I can't say how their Superior Rooms are like, but this upgraded room was really large and tastefully furnished (See pictures). Apart from the large bed, there was a comfy couch, a work desk with wired internet & power cord extensions, a large TV, a cabinet-bathrobe-slippers-locker, a minibar with tea/coffee maker & free supplies, nice coffee mugs, and two bottles of free water. Airconditioning worked fine. The bathroom had a bathtub and a separate shower cabin though the hot & cold mixer in the shower cabin did not seem to work properly.

Everyday, the housekeeping staff left a soft-filled elephant doll on my bed as a gift (see the picture below). In-room dining menu had vegetarian options. Overall, the management and the satff know that the guest is paying more than the "other" Park Plaza and so they try to make it worthwhile in as many ways as they can. I liked Park Plaza Sukhumvit Hotel.
