Hotel Luxury World Phnom Penh Review

Saturday, November 15, 2014

The first time I stayed in Hotel Luxury World (No. 35, Street 200), it was purely for the sake of staying close to a vegetarian restaurant called "The Vegetarian". Later this restaurant shifted to 158, Street 19, South of Botum Pagoda, Off Sihanouk Blvd but I still decided to stay there one more time because I wanted to write a review of this hotel. Actually, its not a bad place to stay. A good sized and clean standard room here with free buffet breakfast costs approximately USD 30 which is not at all expensive. Yes, its a bit far from the river front, and NagaWorld Casino etc. (USD 3 by tuk tuk). It would roughly take a 15-20 minute walk to get to the independence monument from Luxury World. Apart from the free breakfast (really good for non-vegetarians), another facility here is the in-room massage which in my experience was not up to the mark. But perhaps that brings guests to Hotel Luxury World. There is a rooftop cafe too for that evening tea and an open-air dinner. Keep reading...

The Free Breakfast

Being vegetarian, I had to manage with some dragon fruit, corn flakes and milk. For non-vegetarians who like Asian food, there were a plenty of options.

The Room

My standard room had a double bed, a cabinet with a digital safe, a minibar (but no tea/coffee maker), bathroom slippers (thankfully),and a clean bathroom. two small water bottles, two bath towels and two hand towels were supplied everyday. Bathroom toiletries were just basic. Air-conditioning worked fine and I slept well. Free wifi worked in the room and there were a couple of desktops in the lobby with free internet.

My room had an actual window with a nice view but you will need to ask for a room like that. Some of the rooms have windows opening in the corridor. They offered me a room with a view provided I agreed to take a "smoking" room. It was a good choice because there was no smell of smoke either in the room or in the corridor.

The construction next door

Some construction work was going on in the next building (October 2014) so better not count on sleeping late. Still, overall, Hotel Luxury World is ok if staying at Street 200 works for you.
