If you happen to be in Chiang Mai for the first time, the one stop you need to make early on is the Tourism Authority of Thailand's (T.A.T.) Chiang Mai office. Fortunately this tourism office is open everyday (including Sunday and holidays) from 8.30am to 4.30pm and is located at a walkable distance from Night Bazaar (see location map below). One gets to speak to the really helpful staff here and also get some free maps and other tourism related printed material, all courtesy of the T.A.T. I even got Chiang Mai best tourist map here free of cost that has a printed price of 40 THB. T.A.T. staff can help you with information related to Chiang Mai's attractions and how to visit them at the least possible cost, without paying too much to travel agents. Also, they will guide you on your areas of interest, be it Thai food, or Thai traditional dance performances, museums, and art galleries, etc. So maybe during your stay in Chiang Mai, you will visit the T.A.T. office more than once. |Chiang Mai Tourism Authority Office Location Map|
Tourism Office Chiang Mai's address is 164/94-95, Changklan Road, Chiang Mai and their phone numbers are 053-276140/41/42. Please look at the location map above. If you happen to be in Night Bazaar, you will see Burger King and McDonalds in the center. From there, walk towards Anusarn Market/Pantip Plaza. You are on Changklan Road. After Pantip Plaza, you come across a road crossing, that is Sridonchai Road. Without taking any turn here, keep walking straight on Changklan Road. After a few minutes, you will see Shangri-La Hotel on the left side of the road. Tourism Authority Chiang Mai office is on the opposite side of Shangri-La, a little ahead.
