CI HANG Chinese & Western Vegetarian Food Aljunied Station Geylang Singapore

Saturday, March 14, 2015

CI HANG Chinese & Western Vegetarian Food is another vegetarian restaurant close to the Aljunied MRT Station in Geylang Singapore. I say "another" because a few steps away from CI HANG is Tian En Vegetarian which is a really nice value for money vegetarian restaurant. Both these restaurants are located on Lorong 25A in a market building to your left when you come out of Aljunied MRT Station towards Sims Ave (see location on Google Maps below). CI HANG is a little bigger of the two in terms of the menu and the seating capacity. It is also an indoor establishment which gives it a formal appearance. From the road-side, this restaurant is kind of hidden behind the sign board of a "De Yuan Zhi Shan Association" but once you step into the pavement you will see the sign board of CI HANG (see pictures below). The restaurant opens Saturday to Thursday, from 11.20am to 8.00pm, remains closed on all Fridays and I really do not know the logic behind this exact opening time of 11.20am. Their phone number is 6747 1229. Keep reading for more...

The Menu of CI HANG Chinese & Western Vegetarian Food Aljunied MRT Singapore

The name has the word "Western" in it because there are about 15 items in the menu that are "Western", like a Veg Steak (SGD 8), Chicken/Ham Burgers (SGD 3), and Spaghetti (SGD 6). There are Mashed Potatoes (SGD 2) and French Fries (SGD 2.50) too. The rest of the menu is all Chinese with snacks, curries, stir-fries, meal combos, etc. Meal combos are white/brown rice with some curries & soup starting at SGD 6. Addition/deletion of the soup changes the price by 50 cents and similarly, a white rice set is cheaper by 50 cents. The brown rice served here is "organic".

Some of the curries are made from vegetables while the others are soy-based and called "chicken", "fish", etc. Of course, no real meat is served in this restaurant. A serving of noodles or fried rice costs around SGD 4/4.50 & soups are priced between SGD 4 and 5.

Tea & other drinks

The menu has a nice selection of teas titled "Taiwan Bubble Tea" all of which cost SGD 3.50. There are a few "Healthy Drinks" like Plum Juice (SGD 1.80), Organic Wheat Grass Juice (SGD 1.50), etc. A simple tea/coffee with milk is SGD 1.20/1.50.

Self-Service

Self Service at CI HANG Chinese & Western Vegetarian Food Geylang Singapore

One is supposed to order at the counter, make payment, and then wait at a table for the food to be ready. The staff call the guests to the counter when the food is ready.  CI HANG gets busy during the weekends but on other days one gets a table here easily.

In spite of other good vegetarian restaurants around in this area, CI HANG stands out because of its vegetarian Western food. Also, its a convenient option if one finds Tian En closed on their alternate Sunday holidays.
