Macau Ferry Terminal: Terminal Maritimo De Passageiros Do Porto Exterior

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

Macau Ferry Terminal is Macau's main ferry terminal from where one can catch a ferry to Hong Kong (Sheung Wan and Kowloon), Hong Kong International Airport, and China (Shenzhen, Shekou, Guangzhou). This ferry terminal, officially called Maritime Terminal Outer Harbour, is located close to Macau Fisherman's Wharf & Sands Macau. Most of Macau's hotels and casinos operate free shuttle buses to and from Macau Ferry Terminal. Some ferries arrive and depart at night so there are shuttle bus services even at night. Public Buses in Macau connect Macau Ferry Terminal to most parts of Macau. The public buses going towards the terminal will have the words "Terminal Maritimo" displayed in front of them. Bus route numbers that connect the terminal are 1A, 3, 3A, 10, 10A, 10B, 10X, 12, 28A, 28B, 28BX, 32, AP1, and N1A. Keep reading for more...

Departure

Macau Ferry Terminal Escalator

The ticket counters, departure and departure immigration counters are on the 1st level. Take this escalator or find the elevators which are rather hidden in a corner to go to the first level. The process goes like this

Ferry Services

Macau Ferry Terminal Ticket Counters

The main ferry company that operates from this terminal is TurboJet. The other ferry company in Macau - Cotai Water Jet does not operate ferry service from here but instead operates a helicopter service to/from Hong Kong and Shenzhen. That means if you have a ferry ticket of Cotai Water Jet, you will need to go to the other ferry terminal in Macau called Taipa Ferry Terminal.

Ferry to Hong Kong International Airport

If you wish to take a ferry from Terminal Maritimo to Hong Kong International Airport, make sure to get to the ferry terminal more than 3 hours before your flight departure time. If you have less than three hours, the ferry staff will not sell you a ticket to HKIA, but instead you will need to go to Hong Kong City. Ticket counters for ferry services to HKIA are separate from the other ticker counters.

Extra Charge for Big Bags

Baggage Counter at Macau Ferry Terminal

In addition to the above fare, if you carrying oversized luggage, you may be asked to pay 25 MOP/HKD per piece of oversized bags. I am not exactly aware of the size that they consider oversized but whenever I carried a bag over 24 inches, I paid extra. You can carry bags up to 24 inches along with you to the ferry without paying anything but if you want the ferry company to take care of your bags and deliver them to you at the destination, then you need to pay according to their rates.

Facilities at Terminal Maritimo

There are foreign exchange counters, convenience stores, a couple of restaurants that sell Chinese food, a lot of hotel/casino counters, and of course the free shuttle buses apart from public buses and taxis. I suggest taking a taxi only and only if you are not able to find a free shuttle bus and are not comfortable with travelling in a Macau public buses. Macau taxi drivers many times inflate your meter reading by unnecessarily taking  longer routes to your destination.

There is this very helpful Tourism Office counter where you can get a lot of information and printed material. There are a few touch screen terminals here that provide useful information for tourists. Also Read: Taipa Ferry Terminal
