Country Inns & Suites Panjim Goa Hotel Review

Thursday, July 30, 2015

Country Inn located near Panjim City's Kadamba Bus Stand (Plot No. 31, EDC Patto Plaza, Panjim, Goa-403001, Phone: 91-832-674000) is one of the two 'Country Inns & Suites By Carlson' properties in Goa at the time of writing this article. The other one is in Candolim. Now going by the comparative pricing of this hotel it is supposed to be one of the better properties in Panjim. To an extent it is, but its not my favorite. I have stayed here three times, twice on free award bookings and once on a paid booking. As it sometimes happens in a casino, I got lucky here only one out of the three times. Actually, finding a good mid range hotel in Panjim is not easy. Most are either too expensive or too bad or even both. This Country Inn scores over many others because of its location. It is not only very close to the city bus stand but also in the middle of Panjim's business centre - Patto Plaza. But whether you will have a comfortable stay here still depends a great deal on your luck. Keep reading...

Guest Rooms

Country Inn Panjim has Standard, Superior, Deluxe, and Junior Suite type of rooms with per night pricing starting at INR 3600 plus taxes. Some of the rates are non-refundable and require 100% advance payment. Many Indian travel booking sites do not show this hotel in their search results and hence the best way to book here will be through '' which gives a sort of a "Best Rate Guarantee". Some room rates show free breakfast and some don't but somehow on all my three stays here I was offered free breakfast.

Superior Room

Superior Room in Hotel Country Inn Panjim Goa

The superior rooms that I got here were large with a king bed, a writing desk, a small fridge, an LCD TV, two easy chairs & a table, coffee maker & daily supplies, two bottles of water, a wardrobe with a digital locker in it, and a small but clean bathroom. On the positive side, the rooms are well furnished, but on the negative side, their maintenance leaves much to be desired. The wardrobes where the guests are supposed to keep their clothes are not so clean. One of them even had mould in it. The free Wi-Fi does not connect at night, maybe they switch off the server. The room air-conditioning is dicey. Once after my complaint that it was not working, they sent a guy who told me that the A.C. was not working because its filter was not clean. Some of the bathroom fittings do not work properly. The little shampoo/bath gel bottles are not sealed but look refillable. One can never be sure if a bottle has been half used and left there by the previous guest. The screw caps on these bottles are not well designed. I once cut my hand trying to open one. Bathroom slippers are not kept in the room but are provided only when asked for by a guest. The window curtain does not block outside light well, not good for sleeping during the day.

The sad part is, none of these problems in the rooms are such that cannot be resolved. The people in the management just need to pay some attention and this property can be one of the best in Panjim.

The Free Breakfast

The Cafe at Hotel Country Inn Panjim Goa

The free breakfast is served in the cafe next to the front office from 7.30am to 10.30am. The breakfast is just OK, nothing special. Hot food can be ordered from the kitchen, like eggs, paratha, dosa, etc. But sometimes they put too much chili powder in the veggie curry and at other times the plain yogurt is too sour. The muesli they serve here contains corn flakes, maybe they add them to save on cost or they just buy a cheap brand of muesli.

Other facilities

Other facilities in the hotel include a pool, a business centre, and a fitness centre. There is a taxi service too but a little bit more expensive than the public taxis outside. Check-out time is 11.00am but late check-out is allowed subject to availability.

Overall, Country Inn Panjim is an under-performing hotel and because of that its pricing seems a little too expensive. If, however, one is getting a free night here from Club Carlson (starting 9000 Gold Points) then its OK.
