Discounts on King Power Duty Free Shopping in Thailand

Thursday, December 1, 2016

Let me tell the truth first - "Duty Free" shopping at airports in Thailand is not cheap. I have experience of buying mostly duty-free booze and chocolates at Thai airports from King Power Duty Free and I always felt that I paid too much. When I compare the prices of booze at Thai airports with those at Kuala lumpur (KUL) or even back home at Bengaluru (BLR), the prices at Thai airports are always higher. The so called duty-free chocolates at Thai airports are so expensive that buying them back at home in a local super market may save a lot of money. On the internet there are stories from people who have bought stuff at shopping malls in Bangkok at cheaper prices than those charged by King Power. Anyway, despite all this, there are going to be times when tourists in Thailand may like to do some duty-free shopping. And it is at those times that the extra discounts offered by King Power Duty Free from time to time can (may be) lessen the expense a bit. I am sitting in my Bangkok hotel on December 1, 2016 looking at a Bangkok city map sponsored by King Power Duty Free. And I see discounts on offer...

King Power Duty Free Bangkok Map

Discount Offers From King Power Duty Free

The map offers a 10% discount on "unlimited item". Then there are the "terms and conditions" in fine print. Oh, the discount is not applicable on gold jewellery, electronics, liquor, and tobacco. That is some definition of "unlimited item". Other terms and conditions are like this:

(i) The discount is applicable only on the duty free shopping done at the city outlets of King Power Duty Free in Bangkok (Ranganam), Pattaya, Phuket and the one outlet at Srivaree complex that is 15 km away from Suvarnabhumi airport but does not seem like a part of Bangkok when I look at it on Google maps. You pay for your shopping at the city outlets, and then pick up your order at the airport after departure immigration and before heading to the boarding gates.

(ii) The discount is applicable up to December 31, 2016. After this date I hope they will print new maps with new dates of discount validity.

(iii) The discount cannot be used along with any other promotion.

(iv) The discounts are for independent foreign travellers only and not for those travelling as part of tour groups.

(v) Registration with a passport is a must.

(vi) The original map on which discount coupons are printed has to be carried along (Good luck finding a King Power map - you may try in your hotel lobby, at a Thai airport on arrival, or at a travel agent's shop).

(vii) Only one discount / gift coupon can be used in a day.

King Power Duty Free Discount Coupons

Other Discount / Gift Offers

- 15% Discount on One Item of duty free product

- 20% Discount on One Item of Thai product

- A Free (mystery) Gift

Original discount coupons from the King Power map need to be presented.

In case you still feel inspired to actually make a trip to a King Power City outlet, these outlets open daily from 10.00am to 9.00pm except for Phuket outlet that opens from 10.30am to 9.30pm. Do not forget to carry your passport and even the return ticket because you may need the date and time of your return trip.

King Power Discounts at Airport Outlets

Sometimes the King Power Duty Free outlets at the airports also have discount offers that are linked to the amount of shopping that you do. I have seen a discount offer of 300 THB off on a shopping of 3000 THB or above. There were other offers too. These offers need discount coupons too and asking the staff at the duty free counters will help. They usually have discount coupons with them.
