Hotel Towns Well - For Staying Close To Senado Square In Macau

Monday, May 15, 2017

Actually if you choose to stay at Hotel Towns Well, not only you will be close to Senado Square but you will be staying right in the middle of the historical centre of Macau. You will be within a close walking distance of the Ruins of St. Paul's, Se Cathedral, and all the other temples, churches, heritage buildings, museums, fashion shops, and above all, a 24/7 touristy atmosphere that this area has to offer. Hotel Towns Well is a little hard to locate for a first time visitor, but once you find it you will almost love it. It is one of the cheapest hotels in the area (but not the cheapest) for which online booking is available. Personally I have found Ole' Tai Sam Un to be still cheaper, and that one is also not far from Senado Square, Towns Well's location brings you right in the middle of the tourist crowds and some very nice and very cheap shops for branded clothing. And Towns Well's rooms are bigger. Keep reading...

Finding Hotel Towns Well

You will find doing an online booking for this hotel very easy. Finding the actual hotel once you get to Senado Sqaure will test your navigational skills. That is absolutely true if you try to find it using Google Maps. I did that and got lost. So, my first tip, forget Google maps. You may think of taking a taxi to this hotel. Well, there's an over 50% chance that your taxi driver will also not be able to find Hotel Towns Well. Let me explain. The official address of the hotel is this: No 6-6A Calcada das Verdades, Se, Macau. Its actual location is right behind Senado Square. So, start by getting to the front of Senado Square where you see the fountain. From there, start walking with the crowd in the general direction of the Ruins of St. Paul's. At one point you will come to a sharp turn where there is a road sign pointing you towards the left for going to the Ruins. Do not take that left turn and instead walk straight. Keep walking along the clothing and shoes stores and a minute later, you will come to a turn on the left side of the road. This road, with a rather steep incline, looks like a turn in to a residential area but you will see an Esprit Outlet in the corner of a building in the front. Hotel Towns Well is inside that building. Go past the Esprit outlet and you will see the stairs leading to the hotel lobby.

What To Expect

Hotel Towns Well Macau Lobby

The lobby is small but there is a vending machine selling prepaid SIM cards for tourists and the hotel's front desk where they have English speaking staff. Check-in is fast but they will ask for some deposit. They asked for 300 HKD from me. At that time I had yet to change my US dollars into HKD but had 200 HKD notes with me. They accepted 200 HKD only as deposit. That was a nice touch.

The Room

Guest Room at Hotel Towns Well Macau

There's an elevator in the lobby that leads to the upper floors. The room I got was a surprise. I had booked a standard room and was staying alone but they had given me a twin room with two queen sized beds. The room was really big for the price and the location. I was paying approximately USD 55 for the weekdays and USD 75 for the weekend and these rates were for two persons sharing a room without breakfast.

The beds were soft and the A.C. was really effective. Cleanliness was good too. There was a tea/coffee maker (no supplies), two small water bottles for each day, an LCD TV, a small cabinet, and bathroom slippers.

Guest Bathroom at Hotel Towns Well Macau

The bathroom had a separate shower enclosure and an instant water heater. Two fresh towels were given everyday and housekeeping was done daily. The room was very quite at any time of the day or night. There was no noise coming from the busy road nearby. I got what I wanted from this hotel, peaceful sleep at night. The free Wi-Fi was fast at all times. If you are looking for that, Giordano, Bossini, and a few other cheap brands run 365 days sale in their Senado Square shops.

They also agreed to print my air ticket for free for the flight out of Macau and told me that local phone calls from the room phone were free. Check-in, check-out time was 2.00pm and 12.00pm. I had arrived early but got the room immediately. It was a nice experience and I will happily go back there. Now I just have to compare the available rates between Towns Well and Tai Sam Un and I can choose the one that is cheaper.
