Many Indian tourists flock the street markets at Sukhumvit Road around the Nana and Asoke BTS Stations in Bangkok. As a result perhaps there are several Indian restaurants, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, in this area. I have been to at least five Indian restaurants there out of which three are in Soi 11 which is at a very short walk from Nana Skytrain Station. So, if you are looking for an Indian restaurant, alight from the train at Nana BTS Station. If you are going there for the first time, take a look at the street map on display at the BTS platform from where you will get the idea about which exit to take. Soi 6, 8, 10 are one side of the road while 5,7,11 are on the other side. Soi 11 has three Indian restaurants – Khana Khazana, Dosa King, and Mrs. Balbir’s while New Bukhara’s is close by next to Soi 7. There is another one – Aryaa’s on the opposite side of the road near Soi 8. Let us read in detail about these restaurants…
New Bukhara’s Indian Restaurant Soi 7 Sukhumvit Near Nana BTS
This is the best and my favourite Indian restaurant in the Nana area of Bangkok. New Bukhara’s serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian food and hence is good for any Indian tourist. The food is of the best quality and the prices are lower than most other Indian restaurants around. The quality of food deserves a special mention here because the restaurant believes in using quality ingredients which are cooked just right by using moderate amount of spices. So, dining at New Bukhara’s does not burn your stomach while taking care of your pocket at the same time. Read more about New Bukhara’s Indian Restaurant here
Khana Khazana Indian Vegetarian Restaurant Soi 11
Khana Khazana Indian Pure Vegetarian Restaurant is at the corner of Soi 11. Khana Khazana has a very large menu of Indian vegetarian food including both north Indian / south Indian dishes. They have a TV set playing Indian music/movies all the time. At lunch time, a veg thali is available. No hard drinks are served or allowed. So finish your can of beer before you enter. The quality of food is not so good and the prices are higher than New Bukhara’s. Read more about Khana Khazana Indian Restaurant, Soi 11 here. In this restaurant you can buy cheap India calling card – Bolo Card. Just 1 Baht per minute.
Dosa King Indian Restaurant, Soi 11, Sukhumvit, Bangkok
Dosa King is very close to Khana Khazana and has similar food and is a pure vegetarian restaurant. They serve both South Indian and North Indian food. Though the name of the restaurant is Dosa King, they do not really specialize in South Indian food because I was once served a terrible dosa there. Anyway, it adds to the choice of Indian food in this area if nothing else. The restaurant has entry / exit on both Soi’s – 11 and 11/1. Click here for more detailed information on Dosa King.
Mrs. Balbir’s Indian Food Restaurant, Soi 11, Sukhumvit, Bangkok
Mrs. Balbir’s is another Indian restaurant on Soi 11 that serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian food. This is the best furnished and perhaps the largest Indian restaurant on Soi 11. The quality of food here is better than both Dosa King and Khana Khazana but the prices are comparable. Their Thali meals are really nice and the restaurant has a discount program for frequent customers. Read more about Mrs. Balbir’s here.
Aryaa’s Indian Vegetarian Restaurant Soi 8 Nana Bangkok
Aryaa’s Pure Vegetarian Indian Restaurant (Shop No. 164/1, Corner of Soi 8, Sukhumwit Road, Bangkok. Phone: +66 83059 7663) is located right below Nana BTS Skytrain Station. Actually the way to the restaurant is right below Nana BTS because one needs to climb a flight of stairs to get to the right floor. North and South Indian snacks, meals, curries, breads, desserts, and drinks are served here apart from alcoholic drinks. The quality of food is average and you can read more about that in my article on Aryaa’s Indian Vegetarian Nana.
A Very Good Alternative
Well, as an alternative, if you are not intent on Indian vegetarian food only, you can have this great vegetarian meal of brown rice and three vegetarian curries at just 40 THB in the food court of Terminal 21 Mall next to Asoke BTS Station.
