Big C Super Center opposite Central World Shopping Mall at Ratchadamri is perhaps the largest Big C in Bangkok located at a walking distance from Siam Central BTS Skytrain station. From Siam station, one needs to walk towards Police General Hospital and at the main road, turn left. One can also walk to this store from Chidlom Skytrain station. Address: 97/11, Rajdamri Road, Lumpini, Pathumwan, Bangkok – 10330 Phone: 0-2250-4888. It has a multi level Big C departmental store selling food, clothing, furniture, electronics, and everything in-between. There is a large and very popular food court on the 3rd floor and several brand shops and discount sale counters at the ground floor. The store is open 365 days from 9.00 am to midnight. The entire building is well lit and has very effective air conditioning, Public utilities like toilets etc. are located on all floors and signs leading to these are displayed everywhere. Several bank ATMs that accept international ATM cards are placed on all floors. Usually a fee of 200 THB is deducted as service charge in addition to the money withdrawn on international cards. If one needs to change home currency to Thai Baht, a good place to visit is Super Rich (Thailand) Money Exchange located within a 2 minute walk from Big C. The ground floor after the main entry has a busy McDonald’s, several big and small retail shops, a discount sale area, and elevators / escalators, etc.
The next two floors are jam packed with groceries, plastics, food, fresh fruits and vegetables, wines, clothes, furniture, hardware, electronics, toys, and what not. Prices of all items are fixed and clearly marked. Most of the items are sold at a discount to the maximum retail price. Adequate number of cash counters ensure very short queues at these counters and an overall very enjoyable experience for shoppers.
One big attraction of this Big C is its food court. Located on the third floor, the food court also sells international food. I believe tourists and locals come to this food court even when they are not shopping at Big C. Payment for food across different stalls is made via a refundable pre paid card that can be obtained from designated counters.
My all time favourite in this food court is a dessert made from shaved ice, sugar syrup and a choice of 2 or 3 fresh/dried fruits added on top. The dessert costs around 20/30 THB for 2/3 toppings. My only grievance has been that the staff on this counter do not speak English so I find it difficult to know about all the toppings available. To be on the safer side, I stick to dried mango, fresh melon, etc.
Coconut Ice Cream with Fruit Toppings
Another recent interesting addition here is this 25 THB Coconut Ice Cream with three toppings of your choice. Its good stuff.
Looking for vegetarian food may be a little difficult here but luckily I found this stall where steamed vegetables with or without rice can be bought for 30 THB. If no rice is taken, one gets more quantity of vegetables for the same price.
