Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Link Train – City and Express Line

Bangkok Airport Link Train
Bangkok Airport Link Train

The cheapest and the fastest way to travel from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok City are train services available from the basement of the airport (B1 level). There are two types of services – the City Line and the Express Line. The City Line starts from the Suvarnabhumi Station and goes up to Phaya Thai from where one can connect to the BTS Sky Train. On the way, the train covers six stations – Lat Krabang, Ban Tap Chang, Hua Mak, Ramkhamhaeng, Makkasan, and Ratchaprarop. If one’s hotel is in Nana/Asok area, it may be better to get down at Ratchaprarop Station and take a cab directly to the hotel. Minimum city train fare is 15 THB (to Lat Krabang) and maximum is 45 THB (to Phaya Thai). A train departs every 15 minutes starting from 6.00 a.m. and the last train leaves the airport at 11.50 p.m. The journey takes approximately 25-30 minutes. Thought the train sometimes gets crowded on the way, it offers two main advantages over the express line apart from the cheaper fare: 1. The train connects with BTS Skytrain’s Sukhumvit Line at Phaya Thai making onward journey to one’s destinations easier. 2. It stops at six stations on the way to Phaya Thai including Makkasan (Express Line Terminal) and Ratchaprarop (nearer to Nana/Asok area by taxi). The Express Line goes non-stop from Suvarnabhumi Station to Makkasan Station. This 17-minute ride costs 150 THB is available from 6.00 a.m. to midnight departing once every 30 minutes. (Read more below)

Facilities at B1 level

Before catching the train from the airport, one can exchange money, grab a quick bite (vegetarian options available) or do some shopping at any of the following joints at B1 level:

Money Exchange

In my experience, the best passenger facility at B1 level before one proceeds to the train platform is the several money exchange counters and ATMs. The exchange counter of only one particular money changer here will offer you the best exchange rates and you can read about that in this article: Best Money Exchange Rates at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport

7-Eleven

There is a decent sized 7-eleven store perfect to pick up water bottles or snacks or whatever.

Subway

This one is my favourite. Subway here has two vegetarian sandwiches – Vegetarian Delight (110 THB) and Vegetarian Patty (140 THB) apart from other meaty options. Dine-in and take-out are available.
